As an English Language Learner (ELL), have you looked at your English writing skills lately? Can someone understand your English writing? When attempting to write in the English language, you’re not alone if you’re feeling overwhelmed. I’d like to share some writing strategies that helped me learn to write in the English language. It was not easy, but with lots of practice I was able to build on my skills and eventually became a freelance writer. No, I’m not perfect, but I look for opportunities to improve and I encourage you to do the same.

Here are three helpful suggestions for improving your English writing skills:

If you have access to the internet do a Google search for “English Writing” programs, or “Learn to Write English” programs. There are hundreds of writing programs so be careful when choosing. Read everything related to that program before making that purchase. It would be wise to ask someone who has bought “Learn to Write English” programs such as family members, friends, people you work with, or high school teachers.
If you don’t have access to the internet you may visit your public library and look for books such as “Learn to Write English” or “Basics of Learning the English Language”. Better yet, ask the information desk personnel, they’ve been very helpful the many times I’ve visited my public library when doing research. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. Let them know exactly what you are looking for and they will direct you to the book area where you will find what you need. If that library doesn’t have the books you’re looking for you may ask to have them transferred from another library.
Get two writing tablets. The purpose of getting two writing tablets is to keep one at home and to carry one with you. Get a big tablet for home use and a mid size or small one to carry with you at all times. When you get your tablets you’ll notice some will say “Ruled” this means that writing tablet comes with lines for you to write on. If it says, “Unruled” that means it is blank with no lines. Use these two tablets for your English writing only and make a habit of writing English Best Writing Tablet.
Once you get those writing resource materials, whether they are books or internet courses, set a daily schedule for yourself to sit down and practice writing for at least thirty minutes. Do not skip over what you think you may already know because you may miss an important part that will make things clearer for you later. Make sure to follow the steps in the order presented.

Learning to write the English language as adults may feel overwhelming at first. I know it was overwhelming for me, but with practice you will begin to build confidence as you see your improvement. Save all your writings. No, you don’t have to show them to anyone the first day or two, but after that please show someone who is familiar with the English language to make sure you’re on track. If you bought the internet courses or borrowed books from the library you will have checkpoints for staying on track. You will definitely improve and that improvement will come with practice. Just stay with it and you’ll be amazed at the results.
